Tidelands Health Foundation welcomed three new members to its board. Anita Williams, Tom Marchant and Blayne Perry are the newest members of the 16-member board. Composed of community leaders, the volunteer board provides guidance and leadership to the foundation, which works in concert with Tidelands Health to provide new technologies, modern, convenient facilities and increased access to health care services within the Tidelands region.
Longtime Georgetown County physician Dr. Gerald Harmon, vice president of medical affairs for Tidelands Health, has been appointed by U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao for a two-year term to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Medical Review Board.
Laura Sousa, risk manager at Tidelands Health, and been elected to a statewide risk management board. Sousa will serve as secretary of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management.
Horry Georgetown Technical College announced a $750,000 cybersecurity grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and an educational partnership with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWARSYSCEN) Atlantic. The grant and advanced cybersecurity degree will not only create a pipeline to fill critical cybersecurity jobs at SPAWARSYCEN, but will also equip HGTC with state-of-the-art training technology and resources to meet cybersecurity training needs throughout South Carolina. The new program will be unique to South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
A Tidelands Health program that promotes positive lifestyle changes to help reduce the incidence of diabetes in our region has earned national recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Tidelands Health Diabetes Prevention Program recently became only the ninth of its kind in South Carolina to earn full recognition from the CDC. The designation is reserved for diabetes prevention programs that effectively deliver a quality, evidence-based program that meets stringent CDC guidelines.
